Latrines for Koza

For context, Koza is the largest and most populated district in the Far North region of Cameroon. The climate is dry, with nine months of drought and three months of rain. The region is mountainous and therefore infertile, leading to precarious living conditions and limited economic activity.  Schooling is limited for all children, but especially for girls, who are often confined to fieldwork and household chores. Polygamy, early marriage of minors, and forced marriage of young girls are common.   In 2018, the diocese established a private Catholic school in Koza and built a facility to better support girls.  The overall objective of this recent latrine project was to support and empower girls in their health.  More specifically we were able to build two toilets for girls attending the school and thereby prevent them from having to go to the bathroom outdoors and protect them from vaginal injuries, typhoid, and other health risks.
